Matt Osenga has over 20 years of experience in intellectual property matters, including patent litigation and prosecution, product clearance, invalidity and non-infringement opinions, licensing of patents and computer technology, as well as trademark and copyright protection.
Matt has practiced at large international law firms in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, and at smaller law firms in Richmond. He has represented large and small clients in a number of different technology areas, including materials science, such as polymers, coatings, gaskets, and other chemical compositions, pharmaceuticals, food products, synthetic wicker, proppants for use in hydraulic fracturing and various mechanical devices, such as superconductive devices for motors and generators, robotic tunneling systems, roll off containers, aerodynamic devices for vehicles, razor blade coatings, currency denomination machines, playing card shufflers, automatic dumpster locks, radiators, heat transfer tube configuration, charged air coolers, and others. He also has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting design patents.
Matt’s patent prosecution practice encompasses all aspects of patent practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, reexaminations, reissue application, examiner interviews, and preparing briefs and arguments for appeals and post-grant reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Matt has also assisted clients with patenting inventions in other countries through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and a network of patent associates around the world. His litigation experience also includes the preparation of briefs, pleadings, motions, and expert reports, as well as assisting in discovery and witness preparation for trial. He has also prepared briefs and motions for appeals before the Federal Circuit.
