           Alex Butterman was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1966.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Lehigh University in 1988, and a Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law in Jamaica, New York in 1995.  Mr. Butterman is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, New York and New Jersey .

            Mr. Butterman's law school endeavors featured an appointment as the Executive Notes and Comments editor of the New York International Law Review and the publication of his article entitled, Baseball's Anti-trust Exemption and an Owner-Imposed Salary Cap: Can They Coexist? in an entertainment and sports law journal of the American Bar Association.  Mr. Butterman worked for three years as a trademark examining attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in a Law Office that specialized in cosmetics, toiletries and cleaning preparations, publications and office supplies, toys and sporting goods plus a variety of different services.  In addition, Mr. Butterman worked as an associate in several intellectual property specialist law firms, both before and after his experience as a USPTO examining trademark attorney, counseling a wide variety of large and small businesses in trademark clearance, prosecution, maintenance and enforcement and unfair competition matters both domestically and internationally.  Mr. Butterman's work experience also includes interning in the copyright administration department of EMI Music Publishing and working as a consultant with the trademark department of Marriott International.

           In addition to membership in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Alex Butterman is an active member of the International Trademark Association and its Information Resources Committee as well as the Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Butterman focuses his practice on all areas of foreign and domestic trademark law, copyright practice and unfair competition.
